Iijoen lumo – a networking project for operators in the tourism industry

: 1.5.2022-31.10.2024

The main goal of the project is to respond to the growing demand for tourism services by promoting cooperation of operators across sector boundaries, promoting the implementation of already identified development needs, the productization of services and the transition of sales and marketing to digital channels.

In the project, especially small and starting operators in the tourism industry will receive information, support and new products to develop their business and create added value for marketing in national and international markets through cooperation.

The project increases customer understanding and forecasting skills in companies in the tourism industry, and promotes, among other things, the acquisition of Sustainable Travel Finland certification for the region with training provided by Visit Finland. The goal is to create a responsible tourism service producer network that fuels growth in the region.

The themes of the project are nature, educational and cultural tourism. The project is geographically limited from the Iijoki estuary to the upper reaches via Pudasjärvi and Yli-Ii in Oulu to Taivalkoski, and for the Perämeri coast from Räinänlahti via Praava, Laitakari, Olhavanjokisuisto and Merihelmi to Vatunki.

Concrete measures

In addition to the networking of operators concrete measures of the project include the preparation of the survey of the tourism industry and action plan, the promotion of measures agreed with the network in workshops and the production of marketing support material for tourism operators and the addition of products to digital platforms.

Results

As a result of the project a unified, competent and needs-based network of tourism operators in the Iijoki area will be created which will promote tourism and continue development activities after the project.
